Laura Brown

Senior Advisor


Laura Brown co-authored Ithaka’s study of university publishing, “University Publishing in the Digital Age.”  Prior to joining Ithaka as a Senior Advisor, Laura was president of Oxford University Press, USA, American headquarters of the leading global scholarly publisher. In her more than 25 years at Oxford, and most recently as its president, Laura managed a staff of over 500 and helped to build a multi-faceted publishing program composed of general interest, scholarly, professional, and educational publications. She oversaw the transformation of the company into a 21st century electronic force, and revitalized Oxford’s core publishing, producing a record number of prizes.

Currently a Trustee of JSTOR and Overseer of the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, Laura also serves on the Board of The Feminist Press and The Meserve-Kunhardt Foundation.

She holds a BA in English from Goucher College, an MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and an MFA in Painting from Indiana University.
