JSTOR and Ithaka are not-for-profit organizations that provide online services and related support to the higher education and cultural heritage communities. JSTOR is an online archive of important scholarly content, best known today for its collections of scholarly journals (www.jstor.org) but with increasingly important primary source collections including those from the Aluka digital library of African materials (www.aluka.org). JSTOR’s close affiliate Ithaka is presently incubating two related initiatives, the Portico digital preservation service for scholarly materials (www.portico.org) and the NITLE initiative to help colleges use technology effectively to strengthen undergraduate education (www.nitle.org). In addition, Ithaka maintains a research unit that works to help the higher education community adapt strategically to new technologies (www.ithaka.org/research) and a consulting unit that provides strategic advice and business planning services to support new and growing initiatives (http://www.ithaka.org/strategic-services). This talk will provide a basic introduction to our work and focus on some of the key initiatives we have been pursuing.
