The journals publishing system seems to be transitioning inevitably to electronic-only formats: this workshop will focus on the transition from print to electronic-format journals collections. The ultimate inevitability of this transition does not diminish, but rather increases, the necessity for enlightened strategic planning by libraries to guide it. What is your vision for your library collections in five years and how will you get there? Some key areas we will cover include:

  • how to avoid inefficiencies that often creep up during the transition
  • how to manage the risks of a catastrophic preservation failure
  • how to exercise leadership in an environment with diverse stakeholder preferences, and
  • how to handle journals that may not have a viable electronic format
