Librarian study

Ithaka completed a major national study of academic librarians in the summer and fall of 2006 to learn about the perceived roles of the library and librarian on campuses; the impact of transitioning to electronic material on library practices; the place of digital repositories in the campus information-services landscape; and the future plans of academic libraries. Our librarian study was designed to allow us to compare findings of faculty attitudes and preferences with those of librarians.  Librarians surveyed include both directors and collection development leaders from a wide variety of 4-year academic institutions across the United States.

The surveys have produced many thousands of pages of data, so we have prepared a brief overview of some of the key findings. We are working to share our findings from the study in a variety of venues, including publications and conference presentations. If we can help you or your institution by providing additional findings or analysis, please contact Roger Schonfeld.
