Managing the Transition to an Electronic Environment
Providing academia with the policy basis needed to transition effectively and responsibly away from print collections and towards increasingly electronic-only collections
The scholarly journals system is rapidly transitioning away from print and to an electronic-only environment, and questions are beginning to be raised about the circumstances under which other formats might face a similar transition as well. These changes are proving to be transformative for researchers, librarians, and publishers alike, and it will become a more effective and successful transition if its characteristics are better understood. As key collections are less frequently owned or stored locally, the incentives to preserve and the organization of preservation functions may be changing as well, both for print and electronic collections.
