Director, Artstor Digital Library

Piotr Adamczyk is ITHAKA's Director of the Artstor Digital Library, an online resource for teaching and research that includes more than 2 million high-quality images from museums, artists’ estates, and archives. Piotr leads the strategy for the Artstor Digital Library and is responsible for forging and nurturing partnerships with cultural organizations around the world to grow the resource. He also heads a team of designers and developers that collaborate with these image contributors and with users to identify and pursue new ideas for engaging and improving their work. Piotr joined ITHAKA in 2016 as Director of Image Content and Museum Relations.

 

Piotr has extensive experience working with content, data, and technology, and he is deeply engaged with the digital and arts communities.  In his previous role as Program Manager at the Google Cultural Institute, he developed products and enhancements including mobile apps and information architecture for collections metadata, in addition to tools for digital asset management and preservation.  He also worked as a member of the digital media team at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, focusing on content and strategy. 

 

Piotr has advanced degrees in Human Factors and Library and Information Science, as well as undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.  He is a writer as well as a frequent speaker and organizer for industry events including the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, ACM Advanced Visual Interfaces, and Museums and the Web.
